Information for Camp

We’re in the final run up to Camp at Catalina. Please review that following information and documents carefully.

Brother Burgess and Brother Chidester will be the primary leaders (with Bishop Hood and Bryan Brockbank also coming for part or all of the Camp). Our cell phone numbers are (858) 774-4859 [mine] and (619) 778-0192 [Rod’s].

We’ll expect each of the Campers to follow instructions and contribute positively to the group experience. We’ll do our best to ensure that we all have a great time at Camp and that we all come home safe.

Permission Slips and Medical Releases

The 1-page Permission Form and Medical Consent for our Troop has been e-mailed to all Campers. Fill it out and bring it to Steve Chidester on Saturday, July 18 when you bring your bags to pack the cars. Your information packet also includes a Medical Form for the Camp, which must also be completed and turned in to Steve Chidester at the same time. Please note that you are not required to get a physical or have a doctor’s certification (as was required last year), but you must attach to your Medical Form a copy of the front and back of the Camper’s insurance card.

Information Packet and Packing List

Your Information Packet has been e-mailed to Campers. It includes a packing list. In addition to the items listed, bring a notebook, 2 pens, and 2 pencils.

Pack in a duffle bag or other soft-sided bag -- big suitcases would be a problem. You must be able to carry all your baggage from the vehicles to the boat and from the boat to your tent. Each separate bag should be labeled with (1) your name, (2) “RB 674” (3) “White’s Landing – Catalina Experience.” The Ferry for the trip to Catalina imposes the following baggage restrictions:

“Each passenger is allowed 2 pieces of luggage, no larger than 21×24x36 and weighing no more than 70 pounds each, to be stowed in the luggage compartment. In addition, each passenger may bring one carry-on that fits under airline style seating. Flammables or dangerous items are not allowed. Please make sure you have an ID tag on each item and do not leave luggage unattended in the terminal at any time. Unattended luggage is subject to search and seizure.”

No fireworks, matches, or lighters. Do not bring, cell phones, mp3 players, video game players, or other such electronic devices (leaders will have cell phones). You may bring a camera, but you will be responsible for its security against loss, theft, or damage. Do not bring knives, water guns, water balloons, sling shots, SCUBA gear, surfboards, boogy boards, skim boards, etc. Do not bring food, snacks, candy, etc. – they melt in the hot cars and they attract rodents in the tents.

Money:

You should already have paid $375 per person. Those funds will cover the cost of Camp, the round-trip Ferry from Dana Point to Avalon, the round-trip shuttle boat from Avalon to White’s Landing, and the cost of lunch at In-n-Out Burger on Friday. There is a small store at the Camp where you can buy drinks, candy, books, clothing, and sundries. If you expect to shop at the store, bring extra money for that purpose. You will be responsible for securing your money against loss.
